Its been a couple months since I last updated and a lot has been going on. For one our new chicken house is almost complete. Last year we were only able to raise one batch of 150 chicks every 8 weeks and during market season we would run out of chicken before the next group was ready for processing. With the new house this problem has been eliminated!
We took the first chicken batch of the year to the processor at the end of April. We are using a new processor located in Hopkinsville, KY and we are very pleased with their work.
Pictured below is one of our lovely cornish cross pullets.
Our second and third groups of chickens have also arrived. I must say its a fun experience picking up so many chicks from the post office. ;)
In addition to the chicks the turkey poults will be shipping May 17th so be on the lookout for pictures! Be mindful that we have a minimal amount of turkeys available for Thanksgiving therefore if you want one please preorder.
Many of you have been asking for more eggs to be available. Although I can't make the hens lay more I can add to their numbers...
Remember the garden plants I talked about in the last blog? Well they have grown so much! I must say it has been a learning experience especially when trying the get them adapted to living outside instead of in my home. Overall the garden is growing and we will have fresh veggies available sometime around the beginning of June.
Coming soon: Cornish hens and goat meat!
Many people have asked asked about goat and soon we will begin offering it (more to come). Also, a lot of people like whole birds but not 4 pound whole birds, or live by themselves and can't eat a whole big bird so to help meet this need we will be raising cornish hens.
As far as beef goes all of our moma cows and babies are doing well. We have had many spring calves born these last couple months and they are running around happy and healthy.
As always thanks for your patronage. From our family to yours, God bless.
