She was born on Sunday, January 10th. Her moma goat was a first time mother and had a difficult delivery. Therefore, after giving birth she didn't want anything to do with Ruth. This can happen with virtually any animal species (as well as humans but that's a topic for a different day) and if that happens then the raising and nurturing is left up to us. To make matters worse, she was born almost two weeks premature and we didn't know if she would make it. I am happy to announce that our sweet baby is 1 week and 5 days old as of today.
Yes, that's my mom giving her a bath 😊
Facts about Ruthie: she loves her bottle (just like any hand feed animal :), she sleeps... A lot, she knows her name and loves to follow you around the house, she hates being cold (one reason why the transition to outside is taking a little while), she loves the blow dryer after a bath, she has a major attitude as evidence by butting her head against your hand, the dishwasher and even the oven.
In other news we've had several calves born so far this winter, we have 4 more nanny goats that will have babies any day now, the chickens are laying very well, plans for the garden are in the making and we will begin our 1st batch of meat chickens for 2016 at the end of February.
We hope to see you at our shop this year and at the farmers markets. Some news things to look forward to include:
-fresh vegetables (beans, peas, corn, salad greens, egg plant, tomatoes, squash varieties and cucumbers along with an array of other veggies.
-recipes ideas for our meats as well as some of our favorite canned goods.
-seasoning packets available at our store.
-turkey meat which will be available this fall
We hope you have a wonderful January. Stay warm and drink some hot chocolate.
